Tim Jickells OBE - Exploring the ebb and flow of the Saltmarsh

28/05/2024

What a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend an afternoon listening to Tim Jickells OBE talk about the development of the Saltmarsh.

We feel like we understand how vital this type of landscape is to our local environment in Stiffkey and on the North Norfolk coast. The variety of birds, plants, and humans it sustains is quite awe inspiring.

What a fantastic speaker Tim Jickells is. We had a full house for our second talk in the Event Room. We recommend seeing Tim speak, if you ever get the opportunity to.

We are very grateful to Tim for spending his time with us.

Our next Maritime Mingle talk is on Sunday 16th June at 1:30pm, with two speakers for the price of one!

Tim very kindly plugged our next speakers in his talk. As it flows on from his discussion about the Saltmarsh very nicely.

Join authors and experts Dr John A Davies and Dr David Waterhouse to discuss the topic of their book Exploring Norfolk's Deep History Coast, sharing their knowledge of the area's deep historical geology, landscape and creatures that once roamed here.

John was chief curator and keeper of archaeology for Norfolk Museums Service and in charge of the project to restore Norwich’s castle keep to its Norman heyday before he retired. David is a palaeontologist and evolutionary biologist. He was senior curator of natural history and geology for Norfolk Museums Service and is now curator of the Polar Museum at the Scott Polar Research Institute in Cambridge. He is also an artist and created illustrations for the book and its front cover.

Scientist and television presenter Prof. Alice Roberts, said: ‘This book takes you on a trip to the seaside and back into the depths of the Ice Age, walking in the steps of our distant ancestors.’

Be prepared to walk in the footsteps of your distant ancestors at the talk at the Maritime Heritage Centre, Stiffkey, at 2pm on 16th June. Tickets are £5 and there is an opportunity to purchase a signed booked from the authors too, £15 cash.

Tickets are available to purchase in advance from Eventbrite or you can pop into our Maritime Heritage Centre on Sundays between 11-4pm to buy a ticket in person or call 07800 590262 to see if there are any tickets available to purchase on the day of the event.

We hope to see you there.
